Students learn in different ways; some are visual or auditory learners, some learn by doing and some students learn through physical interaction. Web Tools are applications and software that help facilitate communication. They are interactive and allow the user to communicate information in creative ways. Blogs, virtual tours, podcasts, wikis, instant messaging are all examples of Web Tools. Here are some interactive tools I created for previous lessons.
Digital Slide Show 3rd Grade Science: Rocks and Mineral Rock! Rocks and Minerals ROCK! is a web tool slide show I created to accompany a lesson on minerals and different kinds of rocks. It consists of four main sections; minerals, sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks. Every page has full-color, picture samples from my personal collection, as well as captions that explain unit concepts and describe the unit vocabulary represented in each picture. Key words and vocabulary are highlighted in yellow text. Because it was created as a web book, the user must physically click to the next page. This allows the presenter time to pace the slide show with his oral lecture.
Virtual Tour 5th Grade Music: Beale Street Historical Tour Beale Street is on the National Register of Historic Places for its contribution to the American Music Culture. I created a virtual tour web tool with my photos of Beale Street to give students a brief look. The images include historical buildings, street musicians, statues and signs on Beale Street. I included short captions under the photos which include some quick facts about the music history of Beale Street. It is designed to be a short presentation to use as an introduction.
